MGMT in conjunction with Letaba Flying Club in Tzaneen are hosting the Race of Champions Air Race for 2011

The Race of Champions is a handicap event held over two days and is limited to 100 aircraft entering.  Each team consists of a Pilot and Navigator.  The route over both days is approximately 300 nautical miles long and will have a minimum of 2 turning points.

The race is open to any fixed wing aircraft that is capable of maintaining a minimum of 100 knots and has a safe endurance to fly the route distance of 350 nautical miles.  It is a handicap race which makes it possible for any piston powered aircraft to partake.

On day 1 the fastest aircraft departs first and the slowest aircraft last in order to facilitate the field stretching out.  Everybody is flying for time on day 1.

On the second day the slowest aircraft will take off first with the fastest aircraft taking off last.  The results of the first day is then subtracted or added to the starting time.  Should every aircraft fly their exact handicap speed, in theory, all aircraft should arrive at the finishing line at the same time.  This makes for a very spectacular finish.

The Race of Champions is based on the very popular, Presidents Trophy Air Race, except for the handicapping system which differs from the system used in the Presidents Trophy Air Race.

The Race of Champions is strictly an amateur event which is self-funded from sponsors and entry fees.

Media coverage as well as a television program, which is flighted on Super Sport creates extreme value for money to our sponsors.
